Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired two times late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
